Steph Curry had 21 points and a game-high 12 rebounds while helping the Warriors hold Luka Doncic (DAHN'-chihch) to 20 points on 6 of 18 shooting. Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole each had 19 points for the winners.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Ian Cole’s goal completed the Carolina Hurricanes’ comeback in a 2-1 overtime win against the New York Rangers in Game 1 of their Stanley Cup second-round series. Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin (shehsh-TUR’-kihn) was perfect until Sebastian Aho (AH’-hoh) tied the game with just 2:23 remaining in regulation. Former Ranger Antti Raanta (AN’-tee RAHN’-tah) stopped 27 shots and blanked the Blueshirts after Filip Chytil (HEE’-tul) beat him 7:07 into the game.
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Matthew Tkachuk (kah-CHUHK’) registered a hat trick in the Calgary Flames’ 9-6 win over the Edmonton Oilers in the opener of the Stanley Cup second-round series. Elias (eh-LEE’-uhs) Lindholm and Andrew Mangiapane (man-jah-PAH’-nee) scored in the game’s opening minute before Brett Ritchie tallied five minutes later. Blake Coleman had two goals in the opening 6:10 of the second period to give Calgary a 5-1 lead, but Edmonton chipped away and tied it on Kailer Yamamoto’s goal early in the third.
NEW YORK (AP) — New York Mets ace Max Scherzer is scheduled for an MRI on Thursday after removing himself from Wednesday’s start against the Cardinals with discomfort on his left side. The three-time Cy Young Award winner left with two outs in the sixth inning and a 1-1 count on Albert Pujols (POO’-holz). Scherzer threw 87 pitches and left with a 6-2 lead against his hometown team before the Mets completed an 11-4 win.
BALTIMORE (AP) — Gerrit Cole was sharp during the New York Yankees’ 21st win in 24 games, allowing two runs and six hits in a 3-2 verdict of the Orioles. Gleyber (GLAY’-bur) Torres hit an RBI double and scored in a three-run first inning that propelled the Yankees to their ninth straight series win. New York’s 28-9 start is tied for second-best in the majors since 1948, trailing only the 1984 Detroit Tigers at 32-5.
